What worked, and it is rarer than you think

The two briefs. Most clients send a list of complaints and leave the developer to guess at the intent behind them. You sent structure, page order, and the actual copy in the voice you wanted. That is why the new page went from brief to live in one pass instead of three rounds of "not quite". It saved you money and I want you to know it was noticed.

The hedged language was the smartest thing in the brief

Writing "may explore" and "whenever possible" throughout was a deliberate choice, and I kept every instance. It means your site promises nothing you have not confirmed. Most organizations overpromise at launch and spend the next year walking it back.

Where it cost us time

Decisions only you could make stayed open for weeks: the Facebook address, the second retreat, the platform question. Each was small, but while they were open I could not close the work around them. If we work together again, a standing fifteen minutes every fortnight would clear those faster than email ever will.

The thing I would push you on

There is a gap between what the site promises and what exists behind it. Memberships are advertised and nothing can take payment yet. Closing that is the most valuable thing you could do next, and it is why I put the community platform proposal together rather than waiting to be asked.

What I would tell another developer about you

Clear about the mission, generous with context, and willing to write things yourselves instead of outsourcing the thinking. The caveat: you are two people wearing many hats, so anyone working with you needs to be comfortable making a judgment call and flagging it, rather than waiting to be told. That suited me. It would not suit everyone.
